MediCaravan @ Precious Heritage, Antipolo City

MediCard Foundation visited the orphans of Precious Heritage Children’s Home last January 19, 2013 at Barangay Mayamot-Cupang in Antipolo City.  A Medical and Dental Mission was conducted followed by a joint luncheon, fun games and Gift-Giving activity for the kids.  The successful event was in partnership with SNC Engineering Philippines, Inc. led by its president  Mr. Young Ha You and outreach coordinator Ms. Donna Hwang.  Thank you very much to all who attended and supported this project!

“Streetwise Surprise”

Two days before Christmas, a crowd of street people (those who live in the streets) in Luneta, Manila were given a warm surprise by MediCard Foundation on a Sunday noontime of December 23, 2012.  It was just a simple gift-giving of umbrellas that they can use against the sun and rain plus small pillows for resting comfort, but the street people radiated smiles as they eventually dispersed with a thankful heart.  It’s the spirit of Christmas after all!

“Saklolo sa Bayo ni Bagyong Pablo”

It was a very unfortunate day three weeks before Christmas when typhoon Pablo badly hit southern Philippines and caused severe damage to the people and properties of Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental and Surigao del Sur after it triggered extensive landslides and flooding in these eastern areas of Mindanao.

A 30-day aftermath revealed over 6.3 million people affected, more than 200,000 homes damaged or destroyed, and nearly 2,000 people killed or are still missing, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

As part of its Aid and Benevolence for Calamities and Disasters (ABCD) Program, MediCard Foundation immediately launched a relief operation dubbed as “Saklolo sa Bayo ni Bagyong Pablo” and flew to Compostela Valley last December 18 to personally distribute relief goods to more than 600 families in the different barangays of New Bataan, one of the worst hit towns by the wrath of typhoon Pablo.

Through the facilities and manpower support of the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and Peacebuilders Community in Mindanao, MediCard Foundation was able to reach New Bataan after a three hour land travel from Davao City.  In partnership with PBSP, all donations coursed thru MediCard Foundation were able to produce more than 600 Sphere Packs.  Each Sphere Pack can feed a family of 6 for five days and contains the following: bottled water, 8-10 kilos of rice, 3 cans of sardines, half kilo of monggo beans, half kilo of dried fish, 1 pint cooking oil, 1 kilo of sugar, quarter kilo of iodized salt, 1 bar of soap, and 1 non-food item (cooking/dining utensil or blanket).

MediCard Foundation would like to thank all who donated and shared their blessings for our brothers and sisters in Compostela Valley and requests for your continued prayers and support to our fellowmen in rebuilding their homes and recovering their livelihood.

“Aktibong Pamasko Para sa Mga Batang Bibo”

A joint Christmas project of MediCard Philippines Underwriting, Revenue Management, and Claims & Reimbursement Departments for the 60 street children of Balintawak, Monumento and Blumentritt was held last December 14, 2012 at the Quezon City Memorial Circle through MediCard Foundation and Childhope Asia Philippines.  The kids rendered dance numbers and enjoyed the many games prepared by their Kuyas and Ates for the day.  A joint luncheon followed after the gift giving part of the program.  THANK YOU very much to all who contributed in the success of this project!
