Pasukan na sa Kibungan

The MediCard Foundation Team, headed by its president Luis Montoya and wife Dindin, traveled five and a half hours of bumpy winding roads from Baguio City last May 31, 2013 in order to reach Barangay Palina in Kibungan, a 4th class municipality in the province of Benguet and the chosen deserving community of MFI’s back to school gift-giving outreach.

200 grade school pupils received knapsack bags containing school supplies, lunch box, umbrella and hygiene kits after they rendered the special song and dance numbers that they prepared.  They were also given loot bags and snack bags by the Team after the fun-filled outdoor program before the scenic Mt. Kilkili, a cone-shaped mountain believed to be an extinct volcano and one of Benguet’s well known peaks at more than 6,000 feet in elevation above sea level.

“Din eskwela iman sina, putlongen da din esa ay lapis si duwa uno tulu (ta waday usaren din kabsat uno barkada da). Dakdake ay iyaman sin tulong yo.”  “The grade school pupils here even divide and share one pencil into two or three.  We really thank you for your help,” according to Barangay Captain Deliano Faustino.

“You did not just help fuel the passion for learning of the 200 children in Palina but you also shared with the Kibungan Kankana-ey life and culture by dancing the Tayaw (male dance) and Sadong (female dance) along with the locals playing the Gangsa (gong) and Solibao (drum),” happily stated by Mr. Chris Dao-anis, the local project coordinator and founder of The Young Mind advocacy group.

For the MFI Team, the smiles that radiated from the Kibungan kids and the warm hospitality that they received from the locals were indeed priceless and really worth the long travel.  Comprising the Team were Luis Montoya with wife Dindin and children Andie, Inigo and Dino, Voltaire Victoria, Bryan Vergara, Joy Sitjar, Ray Intia, Girlie Sanchez, Eric Angue, Chuck Jose, Joey Alera, Donna Cruz, Carla Calleja, Chris Dao-anis, Mike Estioco, Jerry Esteves and Manny Elip.
